Anise resurrection

Anise using Raise Dead.

Anise Tatlin (アニス・タトリン Anisu Tatorin) is one of the playable characters in Tales of the Abyss. In her original game, she was first seen by Luke fon Fabre and Tear Grants together with Jade Curtiss as Ion's Fon Master Guardian and Arietta the Wild's successor. She has a very mature mind despite her tendencies to exhibit a childlike apperance and personality.

Anise uses a magically-enhanced doll named "Tokunaga", which was created by Dist the Reaper, and rides on its back. She controls Tokunaga and lets it perform physical attacks similar to that of human martial arts. Anise can also cast Light and Dark-elemental spells and use FOFs (Field of Fonons) to augment Tokunaga's physical attacks and her spells with different elements. Anise is an all-around power house character and has above average stats except for her speed and delay recovery.

As Anibache's favorite character, Anise is considered to be pretty powerful and is neither easy nor difficult to use and is recommended for beginners and veterans alike.

Character Facts[]

General Tips & Usage[]

  • Anise is all about overwhelming power. Her damage output is incredibly high, especially if you have a Spark Web Spell Charged. If her opponent blocks too much, Anise can take the time to Spell Charge, break guard with Choupachiki, and keep pressure with Rentou RaikoudanHer mobility is fair despite her large size, and her high amount of health lets her take more abuse than other characters.
  • Her main weakness is her range. A lot of her moves have large hitboxes, but aren't viable to be used alone for one reason for anothereither because of their long TTS or slow recovery. To make up for this, Anise players have to be good at weaving in and out of attack ranges and knowing what buttons to use where.
  • Anise has an excellent HP, attack power and defense against guard break; an above average jumping height; an average dash length and below average movement speed.
  • Anise receives 20% more damage from Light Elemental attacks and 50% less damage from Dark Elemental Attacks. (Please refer to this page for more information on ACS Elements).
  • Anise can use all the basic movement abilities available to most ACS characters.
    • Her Double Jump reaches the top of the screen. Her High Jump is slightly lower than her Double Jump.
    • Her Forward Step and Backward Leap have average range.
    • Anise has long delays after using artes, when getting up, recovering from an enemy hit and when landing during a jump or a backstep.
  • Anise has three kinds of melee ground attacks variations as follows:
    • Press A two times to attack with a left-right hook combo.
      • Press A for a third time to attack the enemy using both hands.
    • Press B to attack an enemy using both hands. This can be connected from an A attack as long as the combo counter does not exceed 2 hits.
      • Press B during Anise's Melee mid-combo to perform a headbutt.
    • Press C to use a headbutt. This can be connected after using A or B melee attacks.
      • This is Anise's only Melee attack that can be chained to an FOF Change. The combo counter must be 2 hits and above.
  • Anise has only one aerial melee attack (Using the A button in mid-air).
  • Anise can Taunt enemies by pressing E.
    • If the taunt animation is successfully executed, Anise's OVL Gauge will increase.
  • Anise can use FOF Changes by pressing a directional button and the D or E button (e.g. →D) as long as the combo counter is 2 hits and above.
    • She cannot chain FOF Changes after any Special, FOF Change or Mystic artes.
    • Anise is invulnerable from most attacks during and FOF Change's animation.
  • Anise can use Spell Charge by holding ↑ when casting any of her spells other than Raise Dead.
    • Once the casting time of the spell is finished, the spell won't activate and will be stored for later use.
    • If you cast a spell that has been stored, no casting time is necessary to activate it.
    • To cast a stored spell, simply press the spell's command again.
    • You can cast other spells normally and it won't affect the stored spell.
    • Only one spell can be stored at a time. Storing another spell will overide the previous one.
  • During Overlimit Lv1, Anise gains a significant boost in her move speed and jump height, all her movement delays are removed and she can cast her spells faster than usual. During Overlimit Lv2, she receives the same buffs except for her move speed, which is much faster during Overlimit Lv2.
    • All of these buffs do not stack with any of her equippable accessories that have similar effects.
    • Anise becomes the strongest character in ACS during her Overlimit as far as stats are concerned.
  • Anise's chain order consists of the following:
    • Melee > Base > Base > Arcane > FOF Change > Special or Mystic
    • She can only chain Base to Base artes once per combo unless she is in Overlimit Lv2.
    • During Overlimit Lv1, Anise can chain Arcane to Arcane artes once per combo.
    • During Overlimit Lv2, Anise can chain her Base and Arcane Artes in any way she wants.

  • Spark Web (Spell Charge) [Note 1] > Garyougeki > Yousoushuugeki [Note 2] > Melee Attack A > Garyougeki > Yousoushuugeki [Note 2] > (Melee Attack A) X 3 > Melee Attack B > Garyougeki > Choupachiki [Note 3] > Souryuu Rettouda > Kuuha Bakuendan > X-Buster [Note 4] > Spark Web [Note 5] > Run towards enemy > (Melee Attack A) X 3 > Melee Attack B > Garyougeki > Souryuu Rettouda > Kuuha Bakuendan > Overlimit Lv1 > (Melee Attack A) X 3 > Melee Attack B > Garyougeki > Souryuu Rettouda > Kuuha Bakuendan > Satsugeki Bukouken [Note 6]
  • Quick Input Version:
  • →←→D & hold ↑ while casting > ↓A > ↓B > A > ↓A > ↓B > A > A > A > B > ↓A > ↓→←A ↓←→B > →E > ↓→←E > →←→D > →→ > A > A > A > B > ↓A > ↓←→B > →E > F > A > A > A > B > ↓A > ↓←→B > →E > ↓←→E
  • Total number of Hits: 118
  • Damage instantly kills Kakashi Scarecrow (500 HP).

Tales of ACS v5.503 Anise Tatlin Instant Kill Combo 2 (118 Hits)

Anise Tatlin's Instant Kill combo at 118 hits.

    • Requirements:
      • Almost full TP for TP using attacks.
      • Anise must get to the corner before Kuuha Bakuendan finishes though it's possible to continue if she gets close to the corner and pushes the enemy to the corner by not reversing X-Buster's command (refer to note 4).
      • Spark Web is spell charged.
    • Notes:
      • Note 1: This is not part of the actual combo count but it is necessary to spell charge Spark Web for this combo. Press and hold ↑ while Spark Web is being casted.
      • Note 2: Linking Garyougeki into Yousoushuugeki without reseting the combo count requires timing. Yousoushuugeki should be released almost right after the enemy start falling.
      • Note 3: Choupachiki should hit the enemy after he/she falls on the ground.
      • Note 4: If Anise and the enemy are both at the corner when Kuuha Bakuendan is used, the command pressed should be the one of Satsugeki Bukouken (↓←→E), considering that being theorically behind the enemy, Anise's commands reverse.
      • Note 5: Use Spark Web as soon as possible. It will have no casting time since it was spell charged earlier in the combo.
      • Note 6: As Anise and the enemy are both at the corner when Kuuha Bakuendan is used, the command pressed should be the one of X-Buster (↓→←E), considering that being theorically behind the enemy, Anise's commands reverse.
  • Although quite repetitive, this combo can instant kill enemies without using much Overlimit Gauge. Can be used in almost any place in the screen as soon as it was possible to Spell Charge Spark Wave.
  • Using Might Charge will further increase the damage done by this combo.
  • This combo was derived from ACS combo videos of Anise at youtube though had a original point in order to further increase capacity. TalesofFan 21:09, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

Tales of ACS v5.503 Anise Tatlin Instant Kill Combo (164 Hits)

      Anise Tatlin 164 Hit Combo.

      • 85% TP for Mystic Artes used.
      • Overlimit Gauge at Level 2.
      • Anise must start the combo while she is against a wall.
      • Spark Web is spell charged.
    • Notes:
      • Note 1: This is not part of the actual combo count but it is necessary to spell charge Spark Web for this combo. Press and hold ↑ while Spark Web is being casted.
      • Note 2: Press the command simultaneously with Anise's landing from Garyougeki. If executed properly, Anise will switch sides with the enemy. Continue the combo normally but take note that since you've switch sides with the opponent, the ← and → direcional buttons in the artes remaining will reverse.
      • Note 3: Use X-Buster while the enemy is free falling after getting hit by Shoubu Koubappa. Pressing ↓→←E to late would allow the enemy to air-tech.
      • Note 4: Use Spark Web as soon as possible. It will have no casting time since it was spell charged earlier in the combo.
      • Note 5: Connecting Karyuushouha and Satsugeki Bukuoken requires a little timing and practice. Press the command for Satsugeki Bukuoken simultaneously with Anise's release of the red chi blast.
      • Note 6: Usually in this combo, an enemy dies before getting hit by Izayoi Tenbu.
  • Anise's highest hits/damage combo. Has lots of requirements but is probably one of the strongest combos in ACS.
  • Using Might Charge will further increase the damage done by this combo.
  • This combo was derived from ACS combo videos of Anise at youtube Minarie 15:57, June 12, 2011 (UTC)
