Barbados

Barbatos using The Earth Crusher.

Barbatos Goetia (バルバトス・ゲーティア Barubatosu Geetia) is one of the major antagonists in Tales of Destiny 2. Barbatos was resurrected by Elraine in her quest to rewrite history and was given the task to eliminate all the forces that threaten or oppose her, especially the four heroes from Tales of Destiny. With this objective in mind, Barbatos attacked the Dunamis Orphanage and killed Stan Aileron by taking hostage the young Kyle Dunamis.

In battle, Barbatos wields a massive, gruesome axe in conjunction with many spells. Barbatos' attacks focus on sheer destructive power to overpower his enemies, instead of speed or number of hits. All his attacks are dealt with above average damage, and some seem completely unbalanced.

Barbatos is recommended for intermediate and veteran players.

Character Facts[]

  • Barbatos has 680 HP, one of the highest in the game.
  • When fighting against Kyle Dunamis, the two will talk while fighting.
    EarthCrusher

A cantaloupe appears instead of a boulder during The Earth Crusher.

  • Barbatos has two victory poses.
  • Barbatos has a unique introductory and victory quote when fighting Stan Aileron.
  • When fighting Barbatos in Story Mode, if he has Low HP, he will use his CPU exclusive, one-hit-kill, unblockable attack, World Destroyer.
    • Other than Barbatos, the only character that has a CPU-exclusive instant kill attack is Anise Tatlin.
  • There is a bug when he uses Thousand Braver which allows Barbatos to deal roughly 500 damage in around 200 hits.
  • Barbatos' Taunt is the longest in ACS, and leaves him widely open.
  • If you perform any Grab attack on Kratos Aurion, his sprite will become Zelos Wilder's until the attack finishes.
  • Barbatos is one of the few ACS characters that can use counter attacks, the others being Sophie Lhant and Chloe Valens.
  • There is a one-in-fourty chance that the boulder picked up during The Earth Crusher will instead be a cantaloupe.

General Tips & Usage[]

  • Barbatos has average jumping height, but below average movement speed and dash length. However he makes up for this with his above average HP, and damage output.
  • Barbatos is less likely to have his guard broken than most characters.
  • Barbatos receives 10% more damage from Fire Elemental attacks and 40% less damage from Earth Elemental Attacks. (Please refer to this page for more information on ACS Elements).
  • Barbatos can perform all the basic movements in ACS except for Double Jump and High Jump.
    • Barbatos' jump only reaches half of the screen's length.
    • Barbatos has terrible Forward Air Dash and Backward Dashes.
    • Barbatos' Forward Step and Backward Leap both have poor height but has good speed and an average range.
  • Barbatos has three melee ground attacks (A, B, and C), but no melee aerial attacks.
    • Barbatos' C melee attack knocks the enemy back and tosses them slightly in mid-air.
    • Barbatos melee ground attacks requires more timing to connect as compared to other ACS characters.
  • During Overlimit Lv1 status, Barbatos is given a Penetrate counter of 7 hits. This makes him more difficult to stagger until the penetrate counter is depleted to 0.
    • For each hit taken, the penetrate counter will be reduced by 1.
    • The penetrate counters will not disappear even if Barbatos' Overlimit status expires.
    • The penetrate counters will immediately be removed if you or the enemy use a mystic arte.
    • During Overlimit Lv2, the penetrate counter is set to 15 hits instead of 7.
    • The penetrate counters, if Overlimit is used while Barbatos still has existing penetrate counters, will not stack with each other. Instead, they will be reset back to 7 or 15 depending if Overlimit Lv1 or Lv2 is used.
  • His chain order consists of:
    • Melee > Base > Master > Arcane > Blast Caliber

Advanced Tips & Combos[]

Battle Strategy[]

When attacking with Barbatos, its best to not combo the enemy too much since the power of most of his artes greatly decreases as the combo counter increases.

General Use Combos[]

Short Range Combo[]

  • Otoko no Furiage > Melee Attack X2 > Senshouha > Death Abyss [Note 1] > Trample [Note 2] > Genocide Braver
  • Quick Input Version:
  • ↓ ← D > A > A > ↓ A > ↓ → B > C > C > C > ↓ → ← D
  • Total Hits = 17. Damage is about 48% of Kakashi Scarecrow's HP (500).
    • Requirements & Notes:
    • TP and the enemy must not be near or against a wall.
    • Note 1: Press C just after Barbatos slams the enemy to the ground. Spam pressing C is also highly advised.
    • Note 2: Press C on the second and third stomp. Spam pressing C is also highly advised.
  • Barbatos' basic non-wall combo.
  • If the enemy is against a wall, replace Genocide Braver with Item nazo Tsukatten ja nee! for better damage.

Highest Combos[]

Highest Hits Combo (Infinite)[]

  • ( Jump [Note 1 & 2] > Bakuenfu [Note 3 & 4] ) X N
  • Quick Input Version:
  • ( ↑ > ↓ → A ) X N
  • N represents a number ranging from one to infinite. How many times you will use this cycle is up to you.
  • Total Hits = Infinite. Damage depends since this is an infinite combo.
  • This combo has no requirements except for good command inputting skills

Tales of ACS Barbatos Goetia Combo 4.avi

A demonstration of Barbatos' infinite combo courtesy of qoojuice562000.

    .
    • Notes:
      • Note 1: Jump while near an enemy, just enough for Bakuenfu to hit. It's best to just hold ↑ and release it when your about to press ↓ → A for Bakuenfu.
      • Note 2: At around 7 to 9 uses of the cycle, the enemy or Barbatos will be too far away for Bakuenfu to hit the enemy. This problem is solved by immediately tapping → before jumping. This is very difficult to execute and needs perfect timing.
      • Note 3: Use Bakuenfu while Barbatos is at the mid-height of his jump or as soon as possible. If you were holding ↑, you have to release it first before pressing ↓ → A.
      • Note 4: After using Bakuenfu, press and hold ↑ until you see Barbatos jump again. Rinse and repeat.
  • Barbatos' infinite combo. Not very practical to use all the way due to its difficulty not to mention that Barbatos' artes weakens as the combo counter increases.
  • The trick of this combo is that you have to release ↑ whenever you are about to use Bakuenfu and you have to hold ↑ again after using Bakuenfu but up until Barbatos jumps again only.
  • For practical application of this combo, it's best to use it repeatedly at around 5 to 6 times. After this, finish the combo with any other arte in Barbatos' disposal.

  • Quick Input Version:
  • ↓ ← D > A > A > ↓ A > ↓ → B > C > C > C > F > A > A > ↓ ← D > ← ↓ → C > ↓ → ← D > ↓ → ← D
  • Total Hits = 27. Damage is 90% of Kakashi Scarecrow's HP (500).

      • Note 2: Press C on the second and third stomp. Spam pressing C is also highly advised.
      • Note 3: The timing may be difficult but it is possible to link these two Blast Caliber's together.
  • Barbatos' strongest combo not counting his infinite combo.
