- This page covers facts and in-depth game usage of the character, Yuri Lowell. For a comprehensive reference list of in-game commands, see Command List: Yuri Lowell.
Yuri Lowell (ユーリ・ローウェル Yuuri Rooueru) is a 21-year old (22 during the end of Vesperia's PS3 version) swordsman and the main protagonist of Tales of Vesperia. He grew up on the Lower Quarter of the Capital, Zaphias.
Yuri comes across as sarcastic and cynical, possibly due to the way the nobility treated the people of the Lower Quarter. He is the first character to be truly ambidextrous, and performs most of his combat techniques with combinations of both his hands.
Yuri's Combat Style is like an acrobatic fighting style, he usually throws his sword after each swing. He also punches with his right hand (wearing gauntlets). His last name is also in old French: "Lowell" means "Young Wolf", which may explain most of his "wolf"-themed attacks.
Character Facts[]
- Yuri has 570 HP.
- He probably has the slowest standard attacks on the game, but it compensate on his longer arte combinations.
- Yuri can perform (Unlike most of the other characters) multiples air dashes
- Estelle can support Yuri using her Pikohan, which can stun the enemy for 2.5 sec.
- Patty can support Yuri by using Star of Dream, the player can also use a lot of its support effects.
(For instance: HP/TP/OVL Recovery, with certain probabilities.)
General Tips & Usage[]
- Yuri is a true brawler. His damage output and pressure options are extraordinary. Guard cancelled Souryuu Rengazan pressure is powerful, Genrouzan and Sougajin keeps your enemies on their toes, and when even those aren't enough, Patty is there to lend a hand. Yuri's damage output is incredible, especially in Overlimit, if you can learn the Shun'enkazan link.
- Like most brawlers in other fighting games, Yuri suffers from a long TTS on most of his moves and very weak mobility options. Almost every other character in the game can outrun Yuri for as long as they need to, and outspeed him in attack speed as well. To properly take advantage of Yuri, you have to be patient to find that opening, but when you do, you must be relentless.
- Yuri's Taunt increases his OVL Gauge, but does not affect the enemy's gauge.
- Unlike some other characters, Yuri gets more hits than he deals damage, the difference with all his Mystic Arte is not so big, so he can perform longer combos and finish it off with one of his 3 Mystic Artes.
- Yuri has three melee ground attacks (A, B, and C), and one melee aerial attack (A).
- A and B have large vertical hitboxes, and C reaches the furthest.
- If his aerial melee attack connects with an airborne opponent, Yuri can continue to combo on the ground.
- Yuri's basic chain order consists of:
- Melee > (Base > Arcane > Altered) > Burst > Mystic
- Anything within the parenthesis can also be rearranged.
- During Overlimit Lv1, his chain order becomes:
- Melee > (Base > Base > Arcane > Arcane > Altered > Altered) > Burst > Mystic
- As well as it continues to allow the arrangement to be chosen by the user.
- During Overlimit Lv2, Yuri can chain ANY arte without respecting the arte limitation, he can even perform the same arte multiple times.

Arcane Artes[]
- Souha Gaougeki (Azure Wolf Strike)
- Yuri slashes, releasing a projectile, thrusts forward, then socks the enemy in the stomach.
- This arte sends the enemy flying away, therefore, it may be hard to chain unless the enemy is in a corner.
- After the opening thrust, this arte can be cancelled by immediately using another arte.
- The projectile's speed increases the more times it is used.
- Begins traveling only 50% the length of the screen.
- However, when used enough times, it can travel 90% the length of the screen.
- TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.

- During Overlimit, Yuri can restart his basic combination of artes by using his 3rd standard hit (C), even after the order has finished.
- This arte can be chained into Reppashou after the chain even after the chain order has finished if timed properly.

- However, when used enough times, they can travel 90% the length of the screen.
- TTS is Fast. TTL is Average.
- Sougajin (Azure Blast)
- Sazanka Tsuiren (Cerberus Blast)
- Ensenshuuraku (Fall from Grace) or (Shining Fang Drop)
- Shugohoujin (Guardian Field)
- Kokuu Gurengeki (Pyre Havoc)
- Yuri punches the enemy into the air, kicks, then slices in a circle, creating a wave of Fire-elemental damage.
- Hard to chain with other artes, except Kokuu Resshuugeki in the corner.
- If you use Kokuu Resshuugeki and it's extension, you can go into Burst or Mystic.
- If the enemy is not in a corner, Bakusaijin is the only arte usable to continue the combo. However, the only non-Mystic or Burst Arte to continue afterward is the projectile of a Souha like arte before no other combination is possible.
- TTS is Fast. TTL is Very Short.
- Fuujinrouha (Lone Wolf Storm)
- Repparanshou
- Zeppa Rehhyougeki (Frigid Blast)
Support Artes[]
- Pikohan (Pow Hammer)
- Star of Dream
Burst Artes[]
- Tenroumetsuga (Divine Wolf)
- Yuri punches the ground, then rampages toward the enemy with constant slashes.
- During Overlimit Lv2, Yuri will finish the arte with a gliding slash and void attack (similar to his Genrouzan arte but starting with a slash, rather than a punch).
- TTS is Instant. TTL is Very Short.
Mystic Artes[]
- Zankou Roueijin (Savage Wolf Fury)
- Yuri slashes the opponent from different angles as he dashes around them. As the assault continues, his strikes become more fluent and brutal. Soon, the enemy is being sliced from 4 different points within a second. Yuri then finishes with a large slash through the center of the field, which causes an outburst of energy.
- An alternate slash sound and faster voice clip can be heard when up button is held from the start until the final slash.
- If E is pressed at the correct times, blood sheds from the target, allowing more hits to be made.
- The cut-in for this attack can change depending which button is held down before the final slash.
- If ↓ is held down, Yuri's Tales of VS. cut-in will appear.
- If → is held down, Yuri's Radiant Mythology 3 cut-in will appear.
- TTS is Instant. TTL is Non-existent.
- Tenshou Kouyokuken
- Yuri grabs the Vesperia 2nd and begins charging it with energy. He then creates a giant feather that extends from the tip of his blade. After a moment of concentration, he slams it onto the foe, causing a uproar of Light.
- Holding ↓ at the start will give Yuri an alternate quote.
- Must be in Overlimit to use this arte.
- TTS is Instant. TTL is Non-existent.
- Bushin Soutenha (Twin Wave)
- Both Yuri and Flynn create a giant glyph around the enemy with their blades, then rush through the center target. They then both leap into the air, and in union perform a team slash. After their swords clash, the tips create two swirling energy waves that unite into an enormous celestial bolt that rockets downward, crashing onto the glyph and dealing extreme amounts of damage to everything inside.
- Must be in Overlimit Lv2 and have a full TP bar to use this arte.
- The command input for this attack is somewhat long, but a generous amount of time is given to punch it in.
- If this arte finishes the opponent(s), Flynn will join Yuri in a victory pose.
- TTS is Very Fast. TTL is Non-existent.

Combos[]
Intermediate Combo[]
- Three-Stage Combo
- Melee Attack A [Note 1]> Sazanka Tsuiren/ Zeppa Rehhyougeki [Note 2] > Gishousen > Souhajin > Sougajin > Gishousen > Souhajin > (Melee Attack A) X3 > Ensenshuuraku > Genrouzan > Patty Fleur: Star of Dream (Note 3) > Gishousen > Quickly Run Towards Enemy > A > B > C > [Note 3] > Zankou Roueijin
- Quick Input version :
- A > ↓←→ A / ↓→ E > →↓←D (←F) > ↓→A > →↓←A > →↓←D (←F) > ↓→A > ABC > ↓←C > →←→A > ↑F > →↓←D (←F) > Quickly Run Towards Enemy > ABC > [Note 3] > E
- Total Hits will vary depending on the combo used in Note 3.
- Damage is nearly 80% of Kakashi Scarcrow's (500 HP).
- Requirements:
- Medium TP for reccuring use of Star of Dream
- Half TP for Zankou Roueijin (Optional).
- Enemy must not be pushed to the wall, if the enemy is near the wall, just skip the part with Star of Dream in it.
- Notes
- Note 1: You must use only 1 hit melee if you want to link with Sazanka Tsuiren. If you do more hits, the enemy can air-tech after the second Gishousen. You can do 2 hit melee (Melee Attack B > Melee Attack C) if you plan to link with Zeppa Rehhyougeki.
- Note 2: If Souhajin reaches it's max speed, you can only use Zeppa Rehhyougeki to link with Souhajin.
- Note 3: Unleash your favorite basic combo here. If you lucky enough, Patty will stun the enemy after 2 artes then you can extend the combo with another basic combo. You can even use Overlimit to extend the combo further just be sure to push the enemy against a wall during the last part of the combo.
- This combo needs revising. Possibly, Yuri has been nerfed, losing the capability of combining Gishousen > Souhajin > A. TalesofFan 00:24, August 27, 2011 (UTC)
Advanced Combo[]
- Shun'enkazan Loop Instant Kill
- Melee Attack B > Melee Attack C > Zeppa Rehhyougeki > Gishousen > Souhajin [Note 1] > Sougajin [Note 2] > Genrouzan > Patty Fleur: Star of Dream [Note 3] > Ressaishouha > Run towards the enemy > Melee Attack A > Melee Attack B > Melee Attack C [Note 4] > Ensenga > Ensenshuuraku > Shun'enkazan > Reppashou [Note 5] > Overlimit Lv1 > Melee Attack A > Melee Attack B > Melee Attack C [Note 4] > (Ensenga > Ensenshuuraku > Shun'enkazan > Melee Attack C [Note 6] ) X2 > Ensenga > Ensenshuuraku > Shun'enkazan > Reppashou [Note 5] > Overlimit Lv1 > Melee Attack A > Melee Attack B > Melee Attack C [Note 4] > Ensenga > Ensenshuuraku > Shun'enkazan > Melee Attack C > Ensenga > Ensenshuuraku > Shun'enkazan > Kogahazan > Senjinrouha > Tenroumetsuga > Zankou Roueijin [Note 7]
- Quick Input Version:
- B > C > ↓ → E > → ↓ ← D (← F) > ↓ → A > → ↓ ← A > → ← → A > ↑ F > → ↓ ← B > → → > A > B > C > ↓ ← B > ↓ ← C > ↓ ← E > ↓ ← → D > F > A > B > C > (↓ ← B > ↓ ← C > ↓ ← E > C) X2 > ↓ ← B > ↓ ← C > ↓ ← E > ↓ ← → D > F > A > B > C > ↓ ← B > ↓ ← C > ↓ ← E > C > ↓ ← B > ↓ ← C > ↓ ← E > ↓ A > → ← → B > D > E
- Total Number of Hits vary depending on Patty's Star of Dream and if Zankou Roueijin was successfully enhanced.
- Damage instantly kills Kakashi Scarecrow (500 HP).
- Requirements:
- TP for Zeppa Rehhyougeki and Star of Dream.
- Overlimit Bar set at 2.
- Player must be cornered or next to the corner.
- Notes:
- Note 1: Souhajin must be used as soon as possible so Yuri can recover after it for Sougajin.
- Note 2: Sougajin maintains the enemy on the ground while being performed, which means you don't have to rush on using it. The command should be finished just when Yuri finishes waving his sword back to his standing stance.
- Note 3: Star of Dream should be used as soon as Yuri runs through the enemy, else the combo counter will be reset.
- Note 4: It can be done as Melee Attack A X3 but the success rate of combinating like that is higher.
- Note 5: Reppashou's command must end just as Yuri finishes waving the sword back to be resting on his shoulder.
- Note 6: A lot of timing is necessary here. It's better to mash the Melee Attack C button.
- Note 7: In order to maximize damage and hit number, it's suggested that E is pressed multiple times on the hi-ougi.
- Requirements:
- This combo can be hard to be placed on a fight but has interesting parts that can be used anytime in battle.
- This combo was inspired by the Intermediate Combo and contributed by: TalesofFan 01:17, August 27, 2011 (UTC)
