Colette Satsugeki Bukouken

Collet using Satsugeki Bukouken.

Collet Brunel (コレット・ブルーネル Koretto Buruuneru), known localized as Colette Brunel, is the main heroine of Tales of Symphonia. As the "Chosen One", she embarks on the "Journey of World Regeneration" along with Refill Sage, Genius Sage, Kratos Aurion and Lloyd Irving during the start of her journey. She is a kind and selfless girl, but she's also quite the klutz. One of her main character traits is her constant tripping (As seen in her main picture) which usually lead to good fortune.

In ACS, she uses two chakrams, ring shaped projectiles she either smacks or throws at the enemy. She also has an infinite supply of toy hammers and spiked balls to throw. As the "Chosen One", she can fly in battle and use special "Angel Skills". She is one of the weakest characters in ACS as far as power and stats are concerned but makes up for it with unique artes and traits that increase her survivability in battle.

Collet is very difficult to use because of her weak stats and is recommended for veterans or players that have enough patience to learn how to use her. On the other hand, as far as CPU allies go, Collet is one of the best.

Character Facts[]

  • Collet has 400 HP.
  • She starts the battle by releasing her wings.
  • She only has one victory pose.
  • She is one of the two character in ACS that can fly (Luke fon Fabre can also fly with the help of Mieu).

    ACS v5.228 Collet Brunel Gameplay

Collet takes on five different Boss Characters in ACS (Unknown Story Mode).

  • Her weapon in ACS is called the "Angel Halo".
  • She is one of the four characters in ACS who can steal items from enemies.
  • She is a childhood friend and classmate of Lloyd Irving, who she has romantic feelings for. Officially, these feelings are reciprocated.
  • Her support arte allows her to summon her teacher Refill Sage and her other childhood friend Genius Sage, both also from Tales of Symphonia.
  • She is the easiest character to run in Unknown story mode.

General Tips & Usage[]

  • Collet is one of the most unique characters in ACS. With her cabability of flight and a fair set of reliable projectiles such as Ray ThrustRune Steer, and Paraly Ball, Collet can be very frustrating to both play as and fight against. An optimal Collet can prevent her opponent from ever stepping within two feet of her, slowly whittling them down with stray hits and chipping damage, using the occasional Holy Judgment to keep them on their toes.
  • Her biggest weakness is her atrocious close range game, with slow melee attacks and small reliable range, coupled with low defensive stats and pretty low damage. Playing Collet takes patience, smarts, and not being clumsy like her.
  • Collet has weak attack power, average move speed, low jumping height and very low HP, but she is surprisingly hard to Guard Break.
  • As an angel, naturally Collet receives 50% more damage from Dark Elemental attacks and 50% less damage from Light Elemental attacks. (Please refer to this page for more information on ACS Elements).
  • Unlike most of the characters in ACS, she cannot perform a back step, high jump, double jump, forward step, backward leap and aerial dashes.
    • Instead of a back step, Collet can Run/Hover backwards by pressing ←←.
  • Collet can Fly after jumping or air-teching by presing ↑. When flying, she slowly descends while stationary but is free to move in any direction.
    • Flying slowly depletes her Overlimit Gauge.
    • To stop flying, Press D.
  • Collet has a two-hit melee attack (A) and a basic long range attack (B), which she can use while walking or flying.
    • Collet's two-hit melee attack (A) can be connected after some artes as long as the combo counter does not exceed 7 hits.
    • The long range (B) attack has a long delay and is not recommended for use.
  • During spell casting, Collet has a hidden penetrate counter which prevents staggering and cast interruption. Cast interruption is still possible if she is attacked multiple times or hit with specific grabs, any Mystic Arte or an attack that induces the Confirmed status change (e.g. 'Dhaos'' Para-Triangle).
  • Collet can cast most of her spells while flying. She slowly descends while casting and the spell will canceled if she touches the ground.
    • Collet cannot guard and fly at the same time but she can use air spell casting as a means of defense due to their innate hidden penetrate counter.
  • During a spell's animation, Collet is invulnerable to all attacks except for Barbatos Goetia's World Destroyer.
  • During Overlimit , Collet casting speed is significantly reduced.
  • Collet's chain order consist of the following:
    • Melee > Base > Master > Arcane > Burst > Mystic
    • Angel Spells can also be casted after a Base, Master or Arcane arte. Doing this eliminates the spell's casting time but also ends the chain. To execute this properly, arte used before the Angel Spell must:
      • Let Collet either drop from the air, move in the ground (e.g. Brandish, Paraly Ball) or push an enemy back (e.g. Ray Shiraze, Rimue Layer)
      • Have more than 1 hit.
      • Hit the enemy properly for more than 1 hit.

Colette Brunel Arte Exhibition

Collet Brunel's artes courtesy of Kratos1991.

  • Ray Thrust
    • Collet throws a chakram forward which ranges about 80% of screen length.
    • Has good range and is best used on the ground.
    • You can slightly alter the projectile's direction by holding ↑ or ↓.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.
  • Pikohan (Pow Hammer)
    • A red spinning toy hammer is tossed upward..
    • Good power and serves as Collet's primary anti-air arte.
      • It can also be effective on the ground if used at point blank range.
    • There is a chance that the hammer tossed will have a different color with special effects:
      • A green hammer (Poihan) creates a patch of poison on an area where the hammer hits the enemy. The poisoned area slowly damages an enemy upon contact.
      • A blue hammer (Kochihan) has a chance to inflict the Confirmed status change (freezes enemies for a short while) upon hit.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Very Short and currently cannot be chained to any of Collet's artes regardless of TTS.
  • Brandish (Fire Whip) or (Ring Whirlwind)
    • A spin attack using two chakrams.
    • This is the easiest arte to chain to an Angel Spell.
      • Doing so eliminates the Angel Spell's casting time.
    • On the other hand, it requires a bit of timing to chain this arte to other Strike Artes.
    • TTS is Average. TTL is Short.

Master Artes[]

  • Ray Shiraze (Dual Ray Thrust)
    • Collet throws two chakram forward which ranges about 80% of screen length.
    • Very similar with Ray Thrust and is best chained from Ray Thrust to Rimue Layer.
    • You can slightly alter the projectile's direction by holding ↑ or ↓.
    • Slightly knocks an enemy back.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.
  • Rune Steer (Ray Satellite)
    • Summons a glowing floating ring which damages enemies that come in contact.
    • Good arte chained after Refill's Valkyrie's Javelin.
    • Only three rings can be present during the battle.
      • The rings will disappear after a short period of time.
    • Has a long delay after use.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.
  • Piko Piko Hammer (Pow Pow Hammer)
    • Two red spinning toy hammers are tossed upward. Stronger version of Pikohan.

      • It can also be effective on the ground if used at point blank range.
    • There is a chance that the hammers tossed will have a different color with special effects:
      • A green hammer (Poihan) creates a patch of poison on an area where the hammer hits the enemy. The poisoned area slowly damages an enemy upon contact.
      • A blue hammer (Kochihan) has a chance to inflict the Confirmed status change (freezes enemies for a short while) upon hit.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Very Short and currently cannot be chained to any of Collet's artes regardless of TTS.
  • Paraly Ball (Para Ball)
    • Two spiked balls are thrown at the enemy. If a ball hits, a lightning bolt will strike the enemy. Range is a little short if used on the ground.
    • One of her best artes. Best to use it while flying to increase its range.
    • Has a good chance to inflict Guard Break.
    • Slightly knocks an enemy back.
    • Wind Elemental.

      • Doing so eliminates the spell's cast time.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.
  • Range Wingle (Ring Cyclone)
    • A double spin attack using two chakrams. Stronger version of Brandish.
    • Another easy arte to chain to an Angel Spell.
      • Doing so eliminates the Angel Spell's casting time.
    • It is very difficult to chain this arte to and from other artes.
    • TTS is Average. TTL is Very Short so it can only be chained to Angel Skills and Burst Artes.
  • Solfège (Whirlwind Rush)
    • Collet smacks an enemy with her chakrams thrice and performs a spin attack.
    • Used to approach an enemy during a combo.
    • An Angel Spell can be chained from this arte.
      • Doing so eliminates the spell's cast time.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.
  • Item Steal (Item Thief)
    • Collet clumsily trips at the enemy and steals items from them.
    • This arte lets you steal items from enemies. Not recommended for combos.
    • Please refer to the Item Steal Guide for a list of items and their effects.
    • TTS is Average. TTL is Very Short and impossible to chain to any arte except Burst Artes.

  • Paraly Partita (Torrential Para Ball)
    • Four spiked balls are thrown at the enemy. If a ball hits, a lightning bolt will strike the enemy. Range is a little short if used on the ground.

    • Collet throws 2 chakrams forward which ranges about 80% of screen length. Surprisingly the 1st chakram does not hit the enemy and the 2nd one is invisible but hits the enemy.
    • Useless arte against AI but has potential to confuse a real player in a VS match.
    • TTS is Slow. TTL is Short.
  • Dancing Sickle
    • A double spin attack using two chakrams. Four rings will circle around Collet and disperse.
    • A key arte used in executing long combos to an enemy who is against a wall.
      • Collet must be at a specific distance for all the rings to hit the enemy while the combo counter does not reset.
      • Is no longer possible once the combo counter reaches 30 hits and above.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.
  • Grand Fall
    • A giant toy hammer falls from the sky.
    • Sometimes hits the enemy for two hits when used while flying.

    • If E is pressed when the first chakram hits the target, it will split into a larger number of copies before barraging the enemy. This will increase the arte's maximum hit capacity by 3, however, the hits will not be chained.
    • Must be in Overlimit.
    • TTS is Fast. TTL is Short.

Angel Spells[]

  • Angel Feather (Angel Feathers)
    • Three purple rings charge towards the enemy.
    • Not very useful as Collet already has Rimue Layer.
    • During casting, Collet has a small amount of penetrate counters to prevent spell interruption.
    • This arte can be used after selected strike artes to avoid the required spell casting.
    • Light Elemental.
    • TTS is Slow. Chaining from selected strike artes is possible but does not continue the combo count.
  • Holy Song
    • A purple glyph and feathers appear on the ground to restore HP.
    • This is Collet's most useful arte as it increases her survivability in battle. Using it after selected strike artes helps avoid its required spell casting.
    • During casting, Collet has a moderate amount of penetrate counters to prevent spell interruption.
    • TTS is Slow. Chaining from selected strike artes is possible but does not continue the combo count.
  • Reviverser (Sacrifice)
    • A blue light eminates from the enemy causing damage to both Collet and the enemy.
    • Dangerous arte to use as it damages Collet and requires a long cast time. This arte is useful because it sets Collet's TP and OVL Bar to Max.
    • During casting, Collet has a moderate amount of penetrate counters to prevent spell interruption.
    • Regardless of TTS and TTL, this arte can only be used as a stand alone.
  • Judgment
    • Beams of light fall from the heavens to punish corrupt souls.
    • Unpredictable arte but it seems to have a number of patterns as far as the beams are concerned.
    • This arte cannot be blocked.
    • This arte can be used after selected strike artes to avoid the required spell casting.
    • Light Elemental.
    • During casting, Collet has a moderate amount of penetrate counters to prevent spell interruption.
    • TTS is Slow. Chaining from selected strike artes is possible but does not continue the combo count.
  • Grand Cross
    • A purple light hurls the enemy in mid-air and forms a cross.
    • Good power but long cast time. The best angel skill to chain after selected strike artes to avoid the required spell casting. Also good against AI contolled enemies.
    • Light Elemental.
    • During casting, Collet has a large amount of penetrate counters to prevent spell interruption.
    • TTS is Slow. Chaining from selected strike artes is possible but does not continue the combo count.

Support Artes[]

  • Valkyrie's Javelin
    • Refill Sage calls forth a magical spear which falls from the sky and pierces the enemy.
    • A good support arte used for extending combos. The enemy is vulnerable to attacks once the spear pierces them.
    • If Refill Sage is attacked by a couple of times while she is casting, the spell will be canceled.
    • TTS is Slow but since Collet is not the one casting the spell, it can be easily chained from other types of attacks. TTL is Long.
  • Fearful Flare
    • Genius Sage calls forth a rain of fire to strike the enemy.
    • Also a good support arte used for extending combos. Although it has a longer casting time than Valkyrie Javelin.
    • This spell is very ineffective when used near a wall.
    • If Genius Sage is attacked by a couple of times while he is casting, the spell will be canceled.
    • TTS is Slow but since Collet is not the one casting the spell, it can be easily chained from other types of attacks. TTL is Long.

Burst Artes[]

  • Satsugeki Bukouken (Final Fury)
    • A flurry of attacks performed by Collet and is finished by triping at the enemy and stealing an item.
    • Collet's only good finishing arte. Requires Overlimit Lv1.
      • Additional hits and a beam of light after tripping will be present during Overlimit Lv2.
    • Please refer to the Item Steal Guide for a list of items and their effects.
    • TTS is Instant. TTL is Very Short so it can only be chained to Mystic Artes with Very Fast TTS which Collet does not have.

Mystic Artes[]

  • Holy Judgment
    • Collet makes a mistake while casting Holy Song and calls forth beams of light to strike from the sky.
    • May activate "accidently" while casting Holy Song.
    • This arte cannot be blocked.
    • Press and hold ↓ before the spell is casted to display an alternate cut-in.
      • If activated with a command, her Tales of VS. cut-in wil be displayed.
      • If activated from Holy Song, her Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 cut-in will be displayed.
    • TTS is Slow.
  • Sephiroth
    • A ball of light falls from the sky and forms a gate of light which opens and engulfs the entire screen in light.
    • Requires Overlimit or low HP. Collet's strongest arte but very unreliable due to the long cast time.
    • During casting, Collet has a large amount of penetrate counters to prevent spell interruption.
    • TTS is Slow.

Item Steal Guide[]

The Item Steal, Robber Item and Satsugeki Bukouken artes allow Collet to steal items from enemies. Items stolen are determined at random and are classified as either Gummies or Accessories.

Gummies[]

  • Gummies are round objects that have always been healing items in the Tales series. They have different effects based on their color/flavors.
  • Collet can steal the following Gummies from enemies:
    • Red (Apple) Gummies slightly restores HP.
    • Orange Gummies increases TP.
    • Sky blue (Miracle) Gummies increases the OVL Gauge.
    • Yellow (effect of Melange yet color of Lemon/Pineapple) Gummies slightly restores HP and increases TP.

Accessories[]

  • Accessories are items that give specific effects and is indicated by an icon on top of Collet's HP gauge.
  • Only one accessory can be equipped at a time. Stealing a new accessory replaces the old one.
  • All equippable accessories expire after a short period of time.

Advance Tips & Combos[]

Battle Strategy[]

When using Collet, you should set surviving as your primary concern since she is very fragile. Block, evade or intercept incoming enemy attacks and attack only when there is an opening.

Tips on Attacking/Surviving[]

  • Constantly keep Collet's HP at Full/Near Full status by using Holy Song. Always use Holy Song with no casting time by chaining it after her strike artes. (Brandish, Ray Shizare, Rimue Layer, Paraly Ball). You can also use the Advanced Long Range + Heal Combo in the General Use Combos section below.
  • Against ground attacks, don't hesitate to block since Collet cannot be inflicted with Guard Break that easily. You can also use Collet's ability to fly to evade wide incoming ground attacks.
  • Against aerial attacks, you can either press D to stop flying and block in mid-air or cast a spell and take advantage of Collet's hidden penetrate counters during casting to reduce the enemy's damage.
  • Against enemies with unmarked penetrate status, fly out of their range of attack and wait for their penetrate status to expire. If the enemy has a marked/hidden penetrate counter, use Stardust Cross to deplete it.
  • Use Holy Judgment to evade incoming attacks that are not mystic artes.
  • Against melee characters, Initially use long range attacks or combos like the Ray Thrust or Paraly Ball series. Lure your enemies to approach you and use melee combos like the Advanced Short Range Combo in Collet's combo section below.
  • Against long range characters, take the battle in mid-air by flying as high as you can and use the Paraly Ball series to attack.
  • As much as possible, try to push your enemies against a wall and deal a good amount of damage using Collet's Advanced Wall Combo indicated in her Combos section below.
  • Don't forget to use Robber Item whenever you get a chance or when the enemy is down on the floor to acquire an accessory for Collet.

General Use Combos[]

  • Collet's main long range combo and main heal combo.
  • Refer to Collet's Unknown Story Mode Video above for an actual simulation.
  • Alternatively, you can use "Brandish > Holy Song" as Collet's main Heal Combo since it's easier to do. No casting time is required for Holy Song if executed properly.

      • Note 4: As soon as the enemy is tossed upward by Overlimit Lv2, press →F and summon Refill Sage to cast Valkyrie's Javelin.
      • Note 5: This is the hardest part of the combo, connecting Collet's Two-hit Attack (A), Range Wingle (↓B) and Steer Fennel (↓→E). Two rings of Steer Fennel will immediately hit and one will float above the enemy. Valkyrie's Javelin will land at this point and hurl the enemy upward to hit the floating ring if executed properly. Watch your timing carefully, one mistake would not connect Steer Fennel and Valkyrie's Javelin. After the enemy hits the floating ring, resume the combo by attacking (A Button).
      • Note 6: You have to press E after Shiten Messatsurin to add additional hits. Press the button as soon as you input the command for Shiten Messatsurin or you can spam press it. After pressing E, immediately press (or spam press) D to use Satsugeki Bukouken. This will inflict the Grab status effect and allow the last 2 extra hits of Shiten Messatsurin to connect.
  • Very difficult to execute and the combo counter is broken during the combo.
  • You can also use Overlimit Lv1 for practical application of this combo in battle.
  • This combo does not work on enemies with large hit boxes (e.g. Dhaos).
