Rid Hershel using Kyokkouken.

Rid Hershel (リッド・ハーシェル Riddo Haasheru) is the main protagonist of Tales of Eternia. Rid is a hunter from the far away village of Rasheans who's only goal in life is to live in peace and eat lots of delicious food. His simple life was suddenly disrupted when Rid and his childhood friend made a fateful encounter with a "Celestian" and embarked on a journey which would eventually save the world from the evil machinations of Shizel and the god of destruction, Nereid.

Rid is a swordsman that particularly excels in using one-handed swords. His self-taught genius swordplay, which impressed even a dojo master and Race, consists of swift and strong attacks which can easily disable enemies and corner them against a wall. Rid also possesses Fibrill, the power of the gods, which allows him to use powerful Divine Aurora Artes that can deal devastating damage and counter certain attacks. 

Rid Hershel is also a playable character in the original ACS.

Unlocking[]

  1. During the first part of the story mode, select Rid by choosing R as your first decision and win against Luke Fone Fabre.

Character Facts and Usage Tips[]

  • By default, Rid has 50 SP.
  • Aside from his normal movement actions, Rid can perform a High Jump, Forward Step and Backward Leap.
    • His Forward Dash has above average speed.
    • His Forward Step has an average range and speed.
    • His Backward Leap has below average range and speed.
    • His High Jump has a slightly doubled height from his regular jump.
    • Rid's Aerial Dash and Backward Aerial Dash cannot be chained after a High Jump. 
    • Rid can perform a Double Jump once his Aerial Jump skill has been activated.
    • Rid's Aerial Dash has above average range and speed while his Aerial Backdash has below average range and speed.
  • Rid has 3 basic ground melee attacks and 2 basic aerial melee attacks.
    • Rid's basic ground melee attacks consists of the following:
      • A downward slash by pressing A. 103 damage and 1 hit.
      • A forward thrust by pressing B. 92 damage and 1 hit.
      • An upward swing by pressing C. 103 damage and 1 hit.
      • All three basic ground melee attacks can be chained together by pressing A, B and C consecutively. You can also press A repeatedly to produce the same effect.
    • Rid's basic aerial melee attacks consists of the following:
      • A full upward swing by pressing A or B whilst in mid-air. 161 damage and 1 hit. Knocks the enemy back and downs them on the ground.
      • A half upward swing by pressing C whilst in mid-air. 149 damage and 1 hit. Has slight knockback effect and can be chained to Rid's 3 basic ground melee attacks.

Chain Order[]

  • Rid's normal chain order consists of the following:
    • Melee > Base > Advanced > Arcane > Mystic
    • Activating the skill Super Chain 1, 2, and 3 allows you to re-order the normal chain order but you still cannot exceed using three artes. Please refer to Rid's skill list below for more information.
    • Activating High Ability Plus skill allows you to chain two Advanced artes together once per combo.
