- This page covers facts and in-depth game usage of the character, Luke fone Fabre. For a comprehensive reference list of in-game commands, see Command List: Luke fone Fabre.
Luke fone Fabre (ルー ク・フォン・ファブレ Ruuku Fon Fabure), known in English as Luke fon Fabre, is the main protagonist in Tales of the Abyss and is one of the playable characters in ACS. Luke is a spoiled aristrocat born in the house of Fabre. As a child, he was kidnapped and lost all his memories, thus he was prohibited from leaving the manor and had zero knowledge of the outside world. During his routine sword training with his master, Van Grants and his best friend, Guy Cecil he was suddenly teleported to the outside world when Tear Grants touched him and caused a hyperresonance. Thus, began his simple journey to get home safely as a handful of events eventually led him to discover more about himself and fight against the Six God-Generals to save the world.
Like in his game, Luke uses the Albert sword style, which is a slower-hitting but more powerful swordsplay that focuses more on damaging techniques with less emphasis on combos. As such, he has techniques such as Raging Blast and Guardian Field, both of which do not chain well in combos. Luke's stats are mainly excellent to above average, making him one of the most powerful ground melee characters.
Luke is very simple to use and is recommended to beginner's and veterans alike.
Character Facts[]
- Luke has 580 HP.
- Luke has two victory poses.
- Luke is one of the two playable characters in ACS that can fly (The other being Collet Brunel from Tales of Symphonia).
- Luke is equipped with the Key of Lorelei as his primary weapon in ACS.
- Special dialogue scenes will occur whenever Luke fights any of the Tales of the Abyss characters.
- Tear Grants supports Luke in ACS by using Searing Sorrow, Fortune's Arc, and its Extension.
- If Tear defeats the enemy using Fortune's Arc, she will perform her own victory quote and pose in lieu of Luke.
- Mieu also supports Luke (though more specifically, Luke uses Mieu) in ACS with Mieu Fire, Mieu Attack, Mieu Wing, and Mieu Nage.
General Tips & Usage[]
- Luke is primarily a close to mid range melee fighter. His moves are a bit slower than most other swordfighters, but he compensates for it with his long range artes like Sonic Thrust and Lightning Blade, and above average power. His most unique moves are Havoc Strike and Slag Assault; both vertically angled air to ground moves that give Luke a nice advantage when he's above the opponent, a trait that many other characters don't have.
- Luke's primary weakness is the lack of very strong defensive artes. Devil's Inferno is probably the closest he's going to get, but the hitbox is not very large and the TTS is fairly slow. He also tends to use a lot of TP, as Lightning Blade and Devil's Inferno, which are both important artes in Luke's arsenal, both cost a moderate amount of TP.
- Luke has excellent damage output and jumping height. All of his other stats are above average.
- Luke has an average to above average defense against Guard Break.
- Luke receives 10% & 20% more damage from Wind and Dark Elemental attacks respectively and 30% less damage from Light Elemental Attacks. (Please refer to this page for more information on ACS Elements).
- Luke can perform all the basic movements in ACS.
- His High Jump reaches the top of the screen.
- His Double Jump exceeds the screen's height.
- His Forward Step and Backward Leap are slow and wide, making it impractical to use.
- His Air Dash is faster than his Ground Dash.
- Luke's melee attacks mechanic is derived from his tilt attacks in Tales of the Abyss in which he attacked using his sword and feet. He has 3 melee ground attacks (A, B, C) and 2 aerial melee attacka (A or B, C).
- Luke's ground melee attack C has 2 hits and has the lowest range among the 3.
- Luke's aerial melee attack A or B slightly hurls both Luke and the enemy upward.
- Luke can use FOF Changes by pressing a directional button and the D or E button (e.g. →D) as long as the combo counter is 2 hits and above.
- He cannot chain FOF Changes after any Mystic or other certain strike artes.
- He cannot chain 2 FOF Changes together unless he is in Overlimit.
- Overlimit allows him to chain 2 FOF Changes. However, the first FOF Change must use the D button (FOF Base Change), while the second FOF Change must use the E button (FOF Arcane Change).
(For example: Lightning Tiger Blade > Shadow Fury)
- Overlimit allows him to chain 2 FOF Changes. However, the first FOF Change must use the D button (FOF Base Change), while the second FOF Change must use the E button (FOF Arcane Change).
- He can only use the FOF Change Coil if the combo counter is 0 and while in Overlimit status.
- Luke can taunt enemies by pressing E.
- If the taunt animation is successfully executed, Luke's Overlimit Gauge will slightly increase and the enemy's will slightly decrease.
- Overlimit Lv2 makes Luke harder to stagger (Unmarked Penetrate status) for until Overlimit status expires.
- Luke's artes has the following characteristics:
- Raging Blast, Fang Blade Rage, Raging Havoc, Rending Blast, Lightning Blade, and Swallow Fury have a very high chance of Guard Breaking the enemy.
- Luke is invulnerable when using Coil or any of his FOF Changes.
- There are only 5 artes Luke can use in mid-air: Fang Blade, Havoc Strike, Swallow Fury, Slag Assault, and Raging Havoc.
- After recovering from an attack in mid-air, you can surprise your opponent by using Slag Assault.
- His chain order consists of:
- Melee > Base > Arcane > Any FOF Change > Mystic
- Coil is the only FOF Change that cannot be used in a combo.
- During Overlimit, his chain order becomes:
- Melee > Base > Arcane > FOF Base Change (D) > FOF Arcane Change (E) > Mystic

- Neutral on block, but your opponent may hit you out of the TTS.
- Earth Elemental.

- You can control the flight's direction by pressing ← or →.
- Press ↓to stop using this arte and descend to the ground.
- TTS is Fast.
- Mieu Nage (Mieu Throw)
- Searing Sorrow
- Tear Grants appears behind Luke, creates a huge fireball, then crashes into the ground, leaving a huge flame pillar that fires upward.

- Ideally used in a combo after an Overlimit Burst.
- TTS is Slow. TTL is Long.
Mystic Artes[]
- Radiant Howl
- Luke roars as he creates a Hyperresonance, causing a pillar of energy to surround him. He then thrusts his hands forward and creates a more focused Hyperresonance, which he then explodes. Blows the opponent away.

- If the initial energy pillar does not hit anything, Luke will be stunned for a bit.
- During the animation, hold ↑ to get the ToVS cut-in instead of the default one.
- Supposedly, this move was based off Fate/stay night's Saber's Excalibur.
- TTS is Average. TTL is Non-existent.
- Fortune's Arc
- Tear floats up into the air inside a glowing sphere, chanting the entire time. Once she finishes her chant, she will summon beams of light to hit the entire screen. The extension has her open her arms, form a giant glyph, and release another wave of light.
- Tap E at the animation's end to do the extension.
- If the last hit of Fortune's Arc hits while the enemy is in the air, instead of knocking down, it juggles the enemy once more and leave him active. Though Fortune's Arc extension is unblockable, the enemy can protect against it by using an arte with invincibility frames.
- The extension will drain all of Luke's remaining TP and heal 100 HP.
- Can only be used once per battle.
- If the attack defeats the enemy, Tear will say a victory quote instead of Luke. She has special dialogue if you're facing Luke, Guy, Jade, or Anise.
- For Fortune's Arc: TTS is Very Fast. TTL is Non-existent. For the Extension: TTS is Instant. TTL is Non-existent.
