Suzu

Suzu using Ninpou: Jiraiya.

Suzu Fujibayashi (藤林 すず Fujibayashi Suzu) is one of three playable characters from Tales of Phantasia. Suzu is trained in the ninja arts and is next in line to be the village chief. She is always trying to control her own feelings, as this is part of the ninja code, but regularly questions why a ninja should be void of emotion.

In combat, Suzu's choice of weapons include ninjatō (short swords), as well as kunai, and shurikens. Being a ninja, Suzu is one of the fastest and most flexible characters in the game but she lacks defense and her artes do not contain much power as compared to other ACS characters.

Despite her weak defense, she is actually pretty easy to use.

Character Facts[]

  • Suzu has 380 HP, one of the lowest in the game.
    Suzu Fujibayashi

Suzu Fujibayashi using Overlimit in mid-air on Dhaos.

  • Suzu has one victory pose.
  • Suzu starts the battle by appearing from a smoke caused by her ninjutsu.
  • Suzu is the only character that has a Quadruple Jump.
  • Suzu has one of the smallest hit box in ACS.
  • Suzu is one of the few characters that can use Overlimit in mid-air.
  • Suzu is one of the four characters capable of stealing items from enemies.
  • Suzu is a distant decsendant of Sheena Fujibayashi from Tales of Symphonia.
  • Suzu's Cameo Support Characters are Chester Barklight and Mint Adenade.

General Tips & Usage[]

  • Suzu is similar to Klarth F. Lester in a couple of ways, particularly in how she gets most of her damage from stray hits, like Dash Cancelled Manjushages or Raidens. As such, most of the time, Suzu will be running away throwing these projectiles using her high mobility, and occasionally defending herself with a Zan. When she needs to, however, she can use those same moves to approach her opponent, along with handy teleport-style moves like Izuna Otoshi and Kagerou.
  • Her main weakness is her low health and low damage output. She's not rewarded as much than other characters when she gets in, and she can get punished really hard if she makes a mistake. In order to make use of her effectively, you have to take extreme advantage of her strengths.
  • Suzu has excellent movement parameters (movement speed, jumping height, dash length etc.) but only has average attack power, below average HP and defense against Guard Break.
  • Suzu receives 20% more damage from Dark Elemental attacks and 20% less damage from Wind Elemental Attacks. (Please refer to this page for more information on ACS Elements).
  • Suzu can perform all the basic movements available to most ACS characters.
    • Suzu can perform a Quadruple Jump instead of the regular Double Jump available to most ACS characters.
      • Instead of her Quadruple Jump, Suzu can peform a Triple Jump after using a High Jump.
      • She can also perform her Quadruple Jump in between her aerial dashes. This is the best way for Suzu to evade some ground based attacks.
    • Suzu can chain her forward air dash to a backward air dash and vice versa.
      • Her air dashes costs 1 CC.
      • She cannot chain two consecutive forward and backward air dashes together.
  • Suzu has two melee ground attacks (A & B) and a basic riser attack (C then tap ↑). She also has two melee aerial attacks (A/B & C).
    • Her C aerial attack allows her to float in mid-air.
  • Most of Suzu's aerial artes can be canceled by doing a forward or backward air dash just before the arte has been fully executed. This move is known as Dash Cancel (DC).
    • This action costs 1 CC to execute.
  • Suzu can Taunt enemies by pressing E. Taunting, if the animation has been fully executed, causes one of the following effects determined at random:
    • Restores 10 of Suzu's HP.
    • Increase Suzu's TP.
    • Increase Suzu's Overlimit Gauge.
  • Suzu can use Overlimit Lv1 in mid-air during a combo.
  • Suzu's naturally small hitbox allows her to evade some artes and combos used by certain ACS characters.
  • Suzu uses a Chain Capacity (CC) Gauge, enabling her to use many different artes in her combos as long as she has enough CC to use each arte.
    • Suzu starts with 12 CC.
    • CC will replenish back to 12 upon completing a combo.
    • During Overlimit Lv2, Suzu's CC is frozen at 12.
    • Some of Suzu's artes cannot be used successively.
  • Suzu's chain order consists of:
    • Melee > Any Arte Type > Any Arte Type > Any Arte Type > etc.
    • If her Mystic Artes are used, the chain will end.

Battle Strategy []

General Use Combos[]

Wall Push Combo[]

  • Rekkuuzan > Kamaitachi > Rekkuuzan > Utsushimi [Note 1] > Rekkuuzan > Utsushimi [Note 1] > Rekkuuzan > Utsushimi [Note 1] > Rekkuuzan > Kamaitachi > Rekkuuzan > Utsushimi [Note 2] > Rekkuuzan > Kamaitachi > Samidare > Zan!
  • Quick Input Version:
  • ↓←B > ↓←C > ↓←B > ↓←A > ↓←B > ↓←A > ↓←B > ↓←A > ↓←B > ↓←C > ↓←B > ↓←A > ↓←B > ↓←C > →←→D > →←→E
  • Total Hits = 48.
  • Damage is about 45% of Kakashi Scarecrow's (500) HP.
    • Requirements:
      • TP for Zan! and Samidare.
    • Notes:
      • Note 1: Make sure that you use Utsushimi as swift as possible. Utsushimi must hit only once while the enemy is free falling in mid-air after using Rekkuuzan. Wait for Suzu's CC Gauge to recover before using Rekkuzan again to continue the combo. Your timing must be more accurate as the number of hits increases.
      • Note 2: Same with Note 1 above but here your timing must be perfect. Frequently, the combo would stop here due to the difficulty in timing. If you make a mistake in your timing, and since you have 1 CC left at this point, use Zan! and properly finish the combo at 33 Hits.
  • Suzu's bread and butter combo, easy to use and has a few requirements but has good power.
  • This combo does not work against certain characters with unique hit box shapes unless used on them when they are against a wall.
  • Greatly pushes an enemy against a wall.
  • You can use Overlimit to extend the combo.

      • TP for Fuujin Fuubakusatsu.
      • Overlimit Gauge set at 2.
      • Suzu must be on low HP.
    • Notes:
      • Note 1: Press A just as you see dust coming from the enemy when he drops to the ground.
      • Note 2: Make sure that you use Utsushimi as swift as possible. Utsushimi must hit only once while the enemy is free falling in mid-air after using Rekkuuzan. Wait for Suzu's CC Gauge to recover before using Rekkuzan again to continue the combo. Your timing must be more accurate as the number of hits increases.
      • Note 3: Same with Note 2 above but here your timing must be perfect. Frequently, the combo would stop here due to the difficulty in timing. If you make a mistake in your timing, and since you have 1 CC left at this point, use Zan! and properly finish the combo at 36 Hits.
  • For the highest hits combo, replace Fuujin Fuubakusatsu with 2 successive use of Jiraiya (Mystic Arte).
  • This combo does not work against certain characters with unique hit box shapes unless used on them when they are against a wall.
  • Greatly pushes an enemy against a wall.
